Top 9 Recipes of 2025 - Video Recipes

As year-end recipe lists go, my Top 9 Recipes of 2024 is one you can really sink your incisors into. And all of my top picks are deliciously cheap to make. Just click on any recipe name to see the original 2024 blog post for tasty photos and my money-saving tips, and be sure to play any embedded videos below. The ranking order is random and not by delectability, so go ahead and dig in!

1. Black-eyed Peas with Collard Greens, Cherry Tomatoes, and Okra.

My recipe is loaded - with veggies, that is. I used dried Black-eyed Peas, but you can use fresh. This is food for the soul.

2. Bagel, Cream Cheese, Onion & Tomato

I've learned there are many types of Bagels since I met my wife, Linda, as I've accompanied her many times to New York City, where there are Jewish Delis and Bagel shops in every neighborhood. Use any type for my simply delicious Bagel, Cream Cheese, Onion & Tomato recipe.

3. Pizza with Anchovies & Capers

Nothing is fresh in this recipe. And I add Anchovies to a frozen Pizza, so this recipe may not be for everybody. If you can follow frozen Pizza directions, then my Pizza with Anchovies & Capers may be for you!

4. Chilaquiles & Eggs - Tortilla Chips, Salsa, Cheese, and Eggs

I like Tortilla Chips with Salsa. Now add this to your breakfast Fried Eggs with cheese, and you have a spicy start to your day. I use a small can of green Salsa Verde, but you can use any favorite Salsa, fresh or from the jar, for my Chilaquiles & Eggs recipe.

5. Bagel Spread - Cream Cheese & Chopped Boiled Egg

It is a quick and easy recipe to make. All you do is set out a block or container of Cream Cheese on the kitchen counter to soften while you boil an Egg. Mix the chopped boiled egg into the Cream Cheese and spread it on a hot, toasted Bagel. I make this Bagel Spread more than any other.

6. Turkey Salad

I always have leftover Turkey after Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday meals. I like to add chopped celery, onion, pickle relish, with mayo and mustard to my Turkey Salad. How about you?

7. Grilled Hatch Chile Sausages

When I see packages of Sausages on sale at my local grocery store, I'll give them a try, especially during the summer grilling season. Charred Grilled Hatch Chile Sausages only need a smear of mustard.

8. Whole Roasted Chicken from Ralphs Grocers

If you have a grocer who sets out packages of Whole Roasted Chicken, then I have a slew of recipes for it. The hard part of cooking a Whole Chicken is taken care of. Check out my Panda Express ripoff recipe of Black Pepper Chicken below, and go right to the stir-frying part.

9. Grilled Eggplant

I like grilled veggies, and Eggplant is the latest tasty subject. I slice a whole Eggplant thickly as a steak and grill it until fork-tender. Grilled Eggplant is my latest favorite recipe.

It has been a fruitfully abundant year of recipes here at the Cheap$kate Chateau. I did the heavy lifting for you, so now all you have to do is pick a recipe link and save yourself some hard-earned cash by trying out any of the above. And if you have a favorite recipe of mine, then leave a comment to share.

Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Recipes

A cooked Thanksgiving turkey is the gift that keeps on giving. So keep reading to see a few of my recipes that will have you coming back for more succulent turkey leftovers. (Click on any recipe name to be directed to my blog post with all the tasty recipe text and yummy photo illustrations.)

If you made a big spread for Thanksgiving, go right to piling leftovers on a plate and zapping them.

However, if you only have turkey, cranberry sauce, some gravy, and stuffing left, then a simple Leftover Recipe is the way to go.

The easiest and quickest use of Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving leftovers is to just stack them between sliced bread or a crusty bread roll.

Click on any photo to see larger.

But to kick the sandwich up to an Ultimate Turkey Sandwich, just crisp up in the frying pan some of that uneaten, soggy turkey skin.

It is a decadent and tasty addition to a classic Turkey Sandwich. Check out my recipe video below for a little culinary decadence.

Before you go cold turkey, try my gobbling spin on a Chicken Salad. I like the crunchy addition of chopped celery in this recipe, which you can rename Turkey Salad. It's a short ingredient list and you can use dark and white meat turkey leftovers. And I like my Turkey Salad between 2 slices of a bagel, and you can also put a large scoop on your fave green salad!

A most popular leftover for the coldest days of winter is a warm and soothing Turkey Soup. I hope you saved the poultry carcass?

For the tastiest soup, it's best to boil leftover roasted turkey bones and turkey bits in a pot of seasoned water. Once the water is simmering on low, just step away for an hour, and meanwhile, do a little veggie and leftover turkey chopping to add with strained turkey broth.

My Turkey Soup recipe link here is based on a typical Chicken Soup.

My Chicken Soup recipe starts with uncooked chicken, so this Turkey Soup spin-off will be done in less time -- just simmer long enough to tenderize the chopped carrot, onion, and celery.

I've recently made a Gumbo recipe video with Leftover Turkey. I take you through easy steps to make a browned-flour homemade Roux, which is the main ingredient to flavor and color Gumbo. I like okra in mine. Check out my Leftover Turkey Gumbo recipe below.

My Mom lives in Louisiana, and she sure knows how to do a Gumbo. This is another cold-weather dish. Serve Mom's Turkey and Sausage Gumbo over rice.

Again, you can reduce the prep time because the leftover turkey is already cooked. Another shortcut is using a pre-made Gumbo base called a Roux, which is often stocked in regular grocery stores.

Check out my video below for all the tasty details.

A pot pie is the most soothing of winter meals, and my Turkey Pot Pie made with Thanksgiving leftovers will have you returning for seconds and thirds!

For my simple recipe, I used a grocery store frozen pie crust that cover the leftovers. And all you do is load up a deep baking dish like you would a lasagna - layering mashed potatoes or yams, veggies, stuffing, turkey, and gravy.

My video below lays it on thick, that is, with plenty of delish leftovers.

You had Pumpkin Pie for Thanksgiving and didn't get enough of the sweet stuff? Well if you had an overabundance of baked or boiled sweet potatoes, then bake a Sweet Potato Pie!

This Southern and Soul Food classic is really simple to do, and my Mom has her Pumpkin Pie recipe that is easily made with cooked and mashed leftover sweet potatoes, and it's a click away right here.

I hope you had a great socially distanced gathering of family and some friends for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving. And do check back for more 99-cent cheap$kate deliciousness.

The Best Turkey Salad Recipe - Video

I love Turkey Salad as much as Chicken or Tuna Salad. It has a milder taste compared to tuna, and the crunchy veggies and mayo/mustard come forward in flavor. My Turkey Salad recipe video will have you coming back for seconds and thirds.

The ingredient list is small. I like a little fine chopped onion and celery for crunch. And those veggies are about the least expensive ones you can find at any grocery store.

I also include a tablespoon of sweet pickle relish. I found it at my local Dollar Tree. You can add more or less veggies and relish to suit your taste. Leave out the veggies for a meatier salad.

I add a little mustard with a lot of mayo for extra creamy Turkey Salad. Again, you can adjust the balance to please yourself and the family. If you don't like mustard, then leave it out.

I use leftover roasted turkey meat from the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Roast Turkey Recipe, click here.

Canned turkey or chicken is fine to use, too - just drain it like you would with canned tuna.

You can often find uncooked turkey legs and breast in the meat department of larger grocery stores.

Turkey Salad is a versatile recipe that's delish between 2 slices of bread, or as an appetizer, and spread on any favorite cracker. Put a big scoop on your favorite green garden salad for extra flavor and heft.

So next holiday, reserve some Roasted Turkey (recipe) and mix up my latest video recipe of a Turkey Salad.

And, if you can't wait for the holidays, I have a recipe for Roasted Turkey Breast, just click here. You can roast a Turkey Leg the same way.

Turkey Salad - Video                               Play it here. Video runs 1 minute, 52 seconds.

Ingredients

  • Roast Turkey - cooked and cubed or shredded. About 2 cups. Okay to use dark or white meat, or both. Okay to substitute Roast Chicken.
  • 1/4 cup chopped Onion - okay to add more or less to taste. I finely chopped 1/4 of a brown onion. You can use any type of onion, including red and green onions.
  • 1/2 cup chopped Celery - okay to add more or less to taste. I used one celery rib.
  • 1 tablespoon Pickle Relish - optional.
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard - or Dijon mustard. I've made this salad without mustard.
  • 3 tablespoons Mayonnaise - any favorite light or whole mayo. Again, add a tablespoon at a time to reach your preferred creaminess.
  • Salt and Pepper to taste.

Directions

I always have leftover Roasted Turkey over the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can use dark or white meat or both. Slice or cube cooked Turkey into bite-sized pieces.

Chop celery and onion. I like onions in salads (Tuna, Chicken, and Egg Salad), finely chopped. For celery, I like pieces a little larger. Okay to chop veggies any way you like.

Now time to bring it all together. Add chopped turkey and veggies to a bowl.

Mix in a tablespoon of pickle relish. Stir in a tablespoon of mayo at a time to reach your desired creaminess. I mixed in about 3 tablespoons total.

Add a teaspoon of mustard. Okay to add or subtract amounts of mayo and mustard to suit your tastes.

Finally, salt and pepper to taste. Store Turkey Salad in the refrigerator. If you wait a couple of hours before serving, all the ingredients will have time to meld and become more intense.

I like to scoop my Turkey Salad onto a toasted onion bagel. You can serve Turkey Salad with crackers as an appetizer. Add a scoop of Turkey Salad to your favorite salad.
